Parent Educator First Visit
Today we had our first in home visit from our parent educator, Betsey. She is great. Abby had a great time playing with Betsey. We also got some ideas as to why Abby wakes up 2 to 3 times a night. She thinks Abby might be in the middle of a growth spurt or just really hungry which might mean shes ready for more than just rice cereal. But before we start any new foods we are going to talk to the pedi next week at her four month appointment... yeah more shots!

March Madness - Elite Eight
Mizzou made it to the Elite Eight this past weekend, we took Abby to our friend Jackie's house to watch the game. In the end Mizzou lost but it was a close game.. Abby had a good time playing on the floor and being passed around, alot.
Uncle Ryan was trying to teach me M-I-Z, he thinks that should be my first words.

Parents as Teachers
We have a great (and free) program that we are a part of called Parents as Teachers. It's a program I believe funded through the state that offers all sorts of great stuff. Abby will have a "parent educator" that comes to our house once a month. Ours hasn't come yet (there was some confusion with our contact number), but will be soon. This person just gives you an idea as to what you should be doing at that point in Abby's life, where she should be at, ideas to help her walk, talk, crawl, etc. We're very excited to have this person come to the house.
They also offer free classes every couple of weeks for parents and babies. Peggy has already been to two of these: "baby massage" and "baby bounce." Baby massage gave her ideas on how to calm Abby down and get her ready for bed at night. Abby LOVES her baby massage. Peggy tries to do it each night before bed. One of the best pieces of advice she got at this meeting was a tip for putting Abby to sleep when she's tired, but doesn't want to close her eyes. As many of you know, Abby has issues sleeping. She's not as bad as she used to be (crying for 30 minutes to an hour or more before naps and nighttime), but she still does cry quite often for her naps.
Usually saturday mornings are a nightmare. Abby will generally get up around 4:30 or 5:oo, be up for about two hours (mostly happy as could be), and then scream her head off for at least 30 minutes before falling asleep.
This morning was a bit different. She got up around 5:00, took a bottle and got changed, and played until about 6:45, when she got tired. So, I took her into her room (when she usually starts screaming) and gave her a bit more of a bottle. She got a bit mad, but not bad. Then, she was just smiley as could be, but wouldn't close her eyes. This is where the "best piece of advice" comes in. Peggy learned a technique in which you basically trace on Abby's face with your finger. You start up on her forehead, and lightly run your finger down her face. She absolutely LOVES it, and thinks it's fantastic. Since you're running your finger past her eyes, this encourages her to close them. Unfortunately, this tip doesn't work when she's screaming her head off, but does on those occasions when she's tired, not mad, but doesn't know what to do.
She fell asleep within 3 minutes with a huge smile on her face. It's about the best feeling in the world to know that she fell asleep so easily and so happily. It truly makes me so happy inside. Anywho, she's currently napping and is excited because she's going to Home Depot when she gets up! What more could a girl want?

Pukey
This is Abby's new look... we're so proud.
We thought she was teething, but I called the pedi this afternoon after a few sleepless nights, and many burp rags and even more bibs. And they had me bring her in right away, the nurse said it was probably an ear infection. Well it's not, just some nasty cold so we are back to sleeping with the humidifier on and eating in really small quantities with hopes that she'll stop puking up everything she eats. This cold is a big bummer, her nose isn't runny, it's all going down her throat, gross dude. On the plus side she is happy as can be, just having a hard time sleeping because she's congested. Let's hope Abby starts to feel better soon.
