Abby and Noah had their PAT visit yesterday. They both did exceedingly well. We have been just a bit worried about Noah's progress, but apparently he is ahead just like his sister was and is.
As part of the visit, they do tests to see how far along the kids are developmentally. Noah is doing everything he's supposed to be doing at this age and then some. We keep reminding ourselves not to compare Noah to Abby, but it's hard not to sometimes. She was so far ahead with everything, that it seems like he's behind. Our PAT visit put to rest those concerns.
Abby is still wayyyy ahead developmentally. Stephanie (the parent educator) was shocked at some of the things she does, like writing her name, drawing pictures of people, her sentences, etc. She's one smart cookie.
So, part of Abby's test was to see if she could draw some lines and recognize shapes. The lines were easy for her. That's when we showed Stephanie how Abby writes her name. I think her jaw hit the floor. So, Stephanie was drawing out some shapes and having Abby name them. She was doing great. "Square, triangle, circle, rectangle" etc. Then Stephanie drew an oval. Abby knows what an oval is....she's named them before.
But this time something hilarious happened. Stephanie asked Abby to identify the oval. Abby thought for a few seconds, then said "hot dog!"
Haha, we all busted up laughing.
We also found out at this visit that Abby "aged out." This means that Stephanie won't be focusing or testing Abby anymore since she'll be turning three. Stephanie will still be coming for Noah. She said she'd bring things for Abby to do, but won't be doing any more screenings. Bummer.
The good news is that since Noah had an ear infection, she can come back for 5 or so visits a year. If there are no "concerns" with a kid, they can only come twice a year I believe. Basically, the educators try to find any excuse to come back if possible, and this is Noah's. YAYYYYY! Our next visit is in January.
