We're still cookin!

Life has been quite busy since school started. Peggy's even got in on the act and done some grading for me! Wahoo!

Unfortunately I haven't been able to use my new camera very much! I want to figure it out more, but I just don't have the time! (maybe after the baby is born I will....hahahah, yeah right!)

Anyways, we had our couples baby shower about a week and a half ago. We got to see all of our friends and family which was fantastic. We also got so much stuff that we needed before we could bring the baby home!

We swung by Babies R Us to pick up the mattress (we figured that the child didn't want to sleep on metal) and a few other small things.

Peggy's been feeling pretty good lately. She's still having contractions, but not nearly as many as before. We're hoping to make it until at least mid october. We are 33 weeks today. It sounds like the doctor will take her off of the medication to stop the contractions at week 36.

So, who knows, maybe when she comes off of the medicine, we will have a baby shortly thereafter. But, there is also a possibility that she could go the full 40 weeks (or more!)

And finally, here's a picture I took of our sedum plant (thanks Jeanette, it still looks fantastic!). There are constantly bees on the plant. Proton goes crazy over them!

Doctor Update

Hey everyone - We've made it another week, yeah!
On Monday I was back at the doctor's office for a regular appointment, the biggest concerns right now are contractions and the fact that my mucus plug fell out this past weekend. The doctor says even with the plug out I could potentially still go 40 weeks, which is great news. I'm still high and dry and not dilated but she reminded me that could change at a moments notice. The bigger concern is the contractions I'm still having 4 or 5 an hour off and on all day everyday. So they finally put me on some meds to help with those. The side effects include dizziness... and I've definitely been suffering from that. The doctor says I should adjust to it in a few days and it will go away. So far it hasn't slowed down the contractions hopeful it just takes a few days to adjust.
The baby is still very active, the meds don't seem to affect him/her at all. She is most active right after I get to work at 2a and at night around 8pm. He/She has had the hiccups a lot lately. Its great entertainment to watch my belly dance around.

I'm still on restricted activity, I am going to work at least another week. Her concern with putting me on bed rest already is the fact I could still be anywhere from 3-9 weeks from delivering and just be sitting at home wasting my time off saved for the baby.
I should be on every two weeks to visit the doctor but with all of the complications I'll be back in her office every week until the little one makes an appearance.

In other news we are getting a new cement poured today, a new driveway, patio, and sidewalks! The driveway is a double wide making for a lot of space, so stop by, you won't have to park on the street!!

It's been a while!

Life has gotten the better of us in the last couple of weeks, so we haven't posted in a while.

A week and a half ago, we were back in the hospital. Peggy was having more than 4 contractions per hour. We got there though, and the nurse acted like that wasn't a big deal. We were frustrated because they still wouldn't give her anything to stop the contracting. Now they told us only to come back when she has "more than 6" contractions per hour. The good news is that she was still "high, thick and dry."

So, we left and have been taking it easy ever since. That leaves me to do ALL the housework this time. That's ok though, she needs her rest.

In brighter news, we bought a new digital SLR. We've been saving for it for a while, so it's nice to finally have it. Our goal was to have it before the baby arrived (and that may be sooner rather than later).

So last night, we tested out the camera, and got some really cool pictures.

We had a fire friday night and found a praying mantis.

Then I turned the camera on Peggy.

Latest doctor visit

Peggy had a scheduled visit with her doctor today. She told her several things that, well, aren't great, but I guess could be worse.

First of all, in her visit to the hospital last week, she actually had 4 contractions (they told us she didn't have any when we were there). And worse than that, they were "real" prelabor contractions. Don't ask me what the difference between that and braxton hicks (false labor) contractions are, but it's not a good thing. Peggy has been having some of these same contractions since last week, which is also not good. However, here we are a full week later, and no baby, so that's good news.

If Peggy has more than 4 of these contractions in an hour, we have been told to go straight back to the hospital. There, they'll do more monitoring, and give her some type of shot to stop the contractions. Call me pessimistic, but I'm guessing we'll be back in the hospital at least once before the baby actually comes. I say this just because the contractions haven't exactly gone away since last monday. She's generally having a couple per day.

She's been told to take it easy...which is turning out to be a hard thing for her. We went from walking a mile every night to her being told to lay around as much as possible. It's been quite a transition for her and us. I have to CONSTANTLY tell her to sit down and offer to get whatever she needed. She's not on bedrest (yet!) luckily, but "restricted activity."

They will do this (give the shot if contractions persist) until week 36 (we're at 29 weeks this week). After that, the doctor is content with letting the baby come whenever he/she is ready.

So, basically we're hoping for at least another 7 weeks. The doctor also said that she could definitely go the full 40 weeks....that some women just "contract." Hopefully she's one of those women and the baby will keep cooking for another 10 weeks.

I did tell the baby tonight that I will give him/her a dollar for each day he/she stays in mommy's belly. Oh, and a $10 bonus for making it the full 40 weeks! Hehe, we'll see if I actually pay up!

So, here's to hoping until at least mid october before our baby arrives! It's starting to feel like it's so close, we're getting anxious (but definitely willing to wait). Even if we do have another 10 weeks, that doesn't seem so far away anymore.

Visit to L & D

So we had a scary start to the week.
Sunday night we were out running errands and I had braxton hicks contractions. I told Dave and we just hung out Sunday night doing a whole lot of nothing.
So I got up Monday morning for work (1am) feeling okay, when I got there I ate my breakfast and started my day. Around 2:50a I started having more bh contractions. This time they were much worse so bad that they made me sick. Afterwards I felt much better so I decided to stick it out. By the end of my shift I had one more set of contractions, so I decided to call the doctor.

The nurse on duty was not very happy that I had waited so long to call, and I got a little scolding, which upset me. She told me to head to labor and delivery and get checked out. Dave was back at school on Monday for staff meetings but thankfully was able to leave, we met at the house and headed straight to the hospital.
They hooked me up to the fetal monitors right away, to check on the baby who looked great. I peed in a cup to make sure it wasn't a urinary tract infection, a common reason to get bh. That came back negative so we had to wait about an hour for the doctor on call who was in surgery.

When the doc and nurse finally came back they started to get set up for the exam when someone else went into labor and they had to leave again. Another 45 minutes later they were back. They did a test that can tell if you are going to deliver in the next 14 days. Thankfully it was negative, plus the doc said my cervix was closed, and high so she called my ob and decided I could go home. The doc couldn't really figure out what caused the contractions, could be too much activity, not enough fluids, or even a 24 hour bug. She did put me on restricted activity, no more walks, more fluids and lots of rest. I do have a regular appointment on Monday with my ob so maybe she'll lift the restrictions.
In the meantime I go to work and watch a lot of Olympics!

It's been a while!

Sorry for not posting much lately, but we just haven't had much to blog about!

In non baby life, I report back to school Monday. The kiddos come back on Thursday. I'm excited and ready for a new school year.

In other non baby life, Peggy started crocheting. It's been, well, we'll just say a rough road thus far, but she's trying.

In baby life, we're busy looking for a pediatrician and daycare for our little one to be.

We've also mostly finished the nursery. There are still little touch ups here and there to make, but it's pretty much finished (minus the mattress, oh and the baby). Below are some pictures for your enjoyment.

By the way, the paint above the chair rail is not white. It's actually a very light green color. It's hard to see in this picture, but more apparent in person.
