Just back from the pediatrician. Guess what? Noah's right ear still has puss on the eardrum which means it's still infected. She also checked his left ear which has never been infected and that had water behind his ear drum. That's the first sign of an infection, sigh. So we had two options another round of oral antibiotics which may not work yet again or give him a shot of antibiotics in his butt. It's a bit extreme but it's just a shot today and one tomorrow and it rarely fails at clearing up the infection. The needle is really long and thick, like a penicillin needle. I hated doing it but it seems nothing is going to get rid of this infection.
His pediatrician also gave me the name of a few Ear, Nose and Throat docs so we can start the process of getting tubes put in his ears.
I can't wait. Not only does Noah need the relief from the pain but the whole family needs less extra early mornings and crabby baby evenings.

More Illness
It may be a mild winter across the country but it has been a rough season for illness. Between the constant runny noses, colds and ear infections we are patiently awaiting spring.
This week is no different but a little more serious.
On Monday when I took the kids to daycare, Noah's teacher told me there were 4 confirmed cases of RSV in the baby room. ugh. But if that wasn't bad enough there was also pneumonia, croup and strep throat circling around the older kids rooms. double ugh.
Now last Thursday and Friday both kids spiked low grade fevers that we treated with Tylenol and moved on. All weekend Abby and Noah were coughing and particularly Abby was rundown. We let her go to school Monday, she seemed fine. Tuesday, when I picked her up after her Valentine's Day she was sitting at the table with her head down. She had another fever. But by Tuesday night she was running around and playing with her brother see pictures below. Later that night she went to bed without any problems and was no longer running a fever. Well that didn't last long, by 11:45pm she was crying and telling me her ear hurt. So I gave her some Tylenol and some of Noah's ear numbing drops and crawled into bed with her. She was pretty upset and wasn't planning on going back to sleep anytime soon. I went back in and told Dave what was going on and he was so confused, he thought it was time to get up and was ready to call in sick to work. I told him to go back to sleep because it was only 12:30a. So Abby and I went downstairs and watched "Tangled". I kept trying to doze off but Abby made sure I stayed awake with her. After the movie, yes she was still awake, we went back upstairs and tried sleeping again but she wasn't having it. So by 3am she wanted Daddy and I needed a break so I brought Abby in our bed. Something that's only happened about 3 times in Abby's life. Dave tried to reason with her about sleep but she didn't feel good and just wanted to hang out. So we let her watch more tv, I know I can't believe we did it. But I was able to doze off and Dave and Abby were up for the day by 4:30am. I slept until my alarm went off at 5:25 and found both kids up and feed.
Abby was in bad shape so Dave took a sick day and I was able to take Noah to daycare and I went to work. Abby wasn't too happy that Daddy stayed home. She just wanted her Mommy. She called me a couple times while I was at work. The only downside to the day was the earliest the pediatrician could see her was 2:30p. So Dave let her watch lots of Disney movies and sleep. Finally at the pediatrician Abby was diagnosed with an ear infection and mild pneumonia. Yuck. So she's on some new drugs and yes we switched pharmacies and were able to get her meds in just 10 minutes!
After just too doses she's already a different kid and her cold is subsiding. We are going back to the pediatrician today for Noah's recheck of his ears. Just another day at the Pleimann's.

Happy Valentine's Day
The Pleimann Children send their love to all this Valentine's Day.
Her face just cracks me up, she thinks she's smiling, oh vey.
This little man is finally starting to feel better, his meds run out on Thursday. The same day we go back for follow up. We are hoping we can schedule to meet with an ENT shortly afterwards.
Abby came home with a huge box of Valentine's today. I can't believe the amount of candy she received. This smart little cookie also wrote every childs name on their Valentine's. We were very impressed.
And Abby is also working on teaching Noah to walk. He's working on it. They are so cute together.
This is their sibling love at the finest.
Noah returning the kiss with some sloppy love.
Haha!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Abby the Vet
We were getting ready for school this morning and Abby came out of the bathroom and said the following: "When I grow up, I want to work at the bird sanctuary." I said "do you want to be a vet?" She replied, "Yeah, I want to put band-aids on owls."
She really likes that place.
She really likes that place.

3 becomes 4
Noah is on a roll with ear infections, since November he's had one every month. It seems as soon as he is off his medication he's miserable and a week later we are back at the pediatricians office for another infection. The night before we went to Minnesota I took him in because he seemed rundown and congested. Of course he had an infection, so for most of our trip he had a running nose and grumpy attitude. Last Thursday, he finished that round of antibiotics and by Saturday he was already coughing and congested again. We gave it until Monday before taking him in. And I'm glad we did. He's doctor doesn't think that infection ever cleared up and he's on a new round of drugs. We scheduled his follow up appointment for 10 days and if he still has an ear infection, which his doctor is pretty positive he will, we will be headed to the ENT. The reason we haven't gone yet, most ENT's won't see kids until 5 documented infections. Let me tell you 5 infections is a long time, I can't wait to get this kid some relief.
His appointment last night wasn't until 7pm, so by the time we got out of there it was already 7:30p, we had been using the local Walmart pharmacy but the last few times we've been there for Noah's prescriptions we've had to wait more than an hour... with a sick kid. Not cool. So last night I thought I'd try the Target, yeah should have checked their hours first. They closed at 7pm, so I back to Walmart we went. They were open until 9p but said they wouldn't be able to get his prescription done until mid-morning. Aargh. So I took a sick day so I could keep him home to rest and pick up his meds and get them in his system. Abby still wanted to go see her friends so I took her in. Noah has been down for him morning nap for almost two hours now. That's how I know he doesn't feel well, he just wants a good nap.

She Got In!
We got information on Rockwood's Preschool program a month ago through our Parents as Teachers program. Abby still has two more full school years before kindergarten. We weren't actually sure if we wanted her to go to preschool for two years or one. We talked to our PAT educator about it, and she couldn't really tell us (because she works for the district).
The one thing I didn't like was they put all 3, 4, and 5 year olds in the same room for the full day preschool program. To me, this didn't make much sense. I don't know why you wouldn't put the 3's and some 4's and then the other 4's and 5's together. I was also worried that if she was in the program for two years, she'd just be learning the same things each of the two years since the curriculum would be the same.
So, we waited a couple weeks to make a decision. The preschool had an open house on the 21st of January. We had asked our PAT lady if she knew about how long we would have in order to sign up before the class filled up (we had heard from others that spots filled up really fast). She told us that we probably had a week after the open house.
The open house was on a saturday morning, starting at 9. Peggy didn't get off of work until 9, so we couldn't go right at the beginning. We decided to wait until later because Abby had dance class at 11:45. We figured to save a trip (the preschool is on the way to dance), we'd just go on the way to dance class (after all, we had a full week, right?).
Well, in short, when we got there, we fell in love with the place. The teacher was so wonderful and the classroom was awesome. It is the perfect place for Abby. It was true, all the kids are in the same class. However, she explained to us how they differentiate their instruction. The split the kids into groups, but within any one group, kids could be working on different things. She showed us work that kids had just done the day before with this. Even though they were all doing some set activity (drawing some scene or something), they were all doing different things. Some were writing their name while others were writing sentences to go with their pictures. That sort of thing. So, to make a long story short, we know she'll be learning new things for both years, not just one. This was just one of the things we fell in love with.
In the end, we decided to do two years of preschool. This mostly came down to the fact that Abby is so far past the others in her current classroom. She's one of the youngest in her class, but she is probably the farthest along in her language, letter and number writing, drawing, etc. The place she's at now just doesn't challenge her or teach her anything new at all. They don't learn anything. It's mostly just playtime and coloring. Next year she would have been in more of a classroom/preschool setting, but not anything near what she's capable of. That's what it came down to. Does it cost more? Yep, quite a bit more actually. But, we think it'll be totally worth it.
We decided we wanted to sign her up. However, we forgot the checkbook at home (first parent fail). I asked the office lady and she said they already had enough applications for a full class (if all the kids were full time). Ugh. They timedate each application, so we wanted to get it in right away.
We didn't get there right at the beginning of the open house -- second MAJOR PARENT FAIL. We left the place very angry at ourselves. It was hard because we fell in love, but then weren't sure we'd be able to send Abby there. It's funny, because you hear about parents who freak out because their kid didn't get into this school or that school, or this club or that sports team. And I've always thought, "geez, stop overreacting." But, things are a bit different when it's your own kid. And this is only preschool!!!! We (and Abby) fell in love with the place, but weren't sure she would get to go there. And it was all our fault. Ugh. We felt like total failures as parents. Perhaps from an outside perspective, others wouldn't see it that way, but we totally did. It was awful.
We were told we wouldn't find out until sometime in March, a long time to wait for sure. But, today while looking through the mail, I saw a letter from Rockwood. I seriously felt like it was Abby's college acceptance letter. I know it seems silly, but we REALLY want her in this school. I ripped it open, and found out she made it. Hooray!
I showed the letter to Abby and she was sooooo happy. She kept asking if she gets to go tomorrow. Heh, no dear (time is still a concept that eludes her). She turned to Noah, holding her letter in the air and yelled, "Noah, I get to go to school!" It was pretty cute. A few minutes later, I looked over and she was hanging her letter on the refrigerator! Haha. I think she's excited.
We're all excited.

Story Time
Today at story time the kids were learning about Groundhog's Day. Ms. Christine was telling the kids about Phil in Pennsylvania when one girl yelled out "Aunt Cathy is there", Ms. Christine responded "Oh Aunt Cathy lives in Pennsylvania?" and the girl responded "yeah thats what I said."
Story time can get pretty loud with the comments from the kids.
So as the book continued it talked about other animals related to the groundhog including a hedgehog. Abby yelled out "That's Pinecone, Auntie Sally lives with her." Ms. Christine just nodded and kept going not really sure how to respond. Apparently not everyone has a Pinecone or Auntie Sally.
