President's Day

Yesterday I was reminding Abby that Monday, she would be staying home with Daddy and Noah because it was President's Day, which meant they had the day off. Later we were having a birthday party for her kitty "Pepper" that lives in her dollhouse. We are talking small toy kitty here, not the real thing.
When out of the blue Abby asked, " What do we do for Mr. Obama day?" "You mean President's Day?" "Yeah" "We stay home in our pj's." It's all I got. Happy President's Day!

Volcano

Dave and I have been working all weekend to get our basement cleared out and cleaned up. We hope to make it more of a family room/kids room. So while we worked the kids played down there and watched a movie on the big screen. They were awesome, this is the first time they have spent any amount of time down there. Today was day three in the basement and Dave was in the bathroom washing his hands when Abby questioned where the water noise was coming from. When I told her Dave was in the bathroom, she didn't believe me. So when Dave was done I took her and Noah in the bathroom to see it. Her response "this is where we would go potty if there was a volcano, right?" Yes honey, this is where we would go if there was a tornado. Love her.

"Perfect Angel"

When I dropped the kids off at school on Monday morning, one of Noah's teachers told me something that surprised me.

She said Noah is a "perfect angel."  I did a double take.  "What?!?  Seriously?"

She said that he was definitely the best kid in his class.  I responded with, "wait, you're talking about Noah, right??"

She laughed and said yes.  Apparently he listens to everything his teacher says.  He doesn't get up from the table unless he's told to.  He doesn't really do anything unless he's told to.

I told her that at home he'll get put in timeout for something, then he'll go back and do it again and again.  He doesn't seem to learn at home.  She told me he's never had a timeout at school.  SERIOUSLY???

Then at stay-n-play (at the gym) yesterday, the worker in there said basically the same thing.  He was very excited when the kids came in for the day.  The workers there love our kids.  He told Peggy, "if all the kids were as good as yours, I'd want to work here everyday.  They're so good and just play with each other so nicely."

I'm still dumbfounded that these people are talking about our kids.  I'm not saying our kids are bad.  Far from it.  But, at home they are not the "perfect angels" everyone thinks they are.  I think our kids, compared to most, are amazingly well behaved.  It's nice to know that they're really good when we're not around.

We must be doing something right....

Quotables: Really?!?

Peggy has been making fruit smoothies each night for the last couple of weeks.  Abby likes drinking a bit of the extras.  Yesterday, Peggy left a bit of the shake for Abby to drink this morning.

Abby: "Will you make me a shake for the morning?"
Peggy: "You didn't even drink the one I left you this morning!"
Abby: "Really?!?  You're going to make me drink leftovers????"
Peggy just groaned and walked away.

Abby does this "Really?!?" thing allllll the time lately.  I'm not sure where she picked it up, but we hear it quite often.  It's usually pretty funny.

Names

Noah is talking up a storm lately. He is calling his sister by her name. He sounds like he has a British accent but it's adorable. I can't believe he'll be two in just a few short weeks.

He's had a word explosion in the last couple of months.  It's amazing.  Just at the end of last year, we were talking to the Parents as Teacher Educator about his lack of talking.  A couple weeks later, he apparently decided it was time to talk.  Now he's constantly talking, and has quite a large vocabulary already.

He also started saying "yes" instead of "yeah" a week or two ago.  It's so adorable and just make him sound so much older.

Yes, Sir!

Noah now says "yes sir" to me when I ask him a question.  It's hilarious.

This morning he apparently also decided to say it to Abby.
Abby: "Do you want to do a puzzle?"
Noah: "Yes sir."
Abby: "No, I'm not a sir, I'm a maam.  Say yes maam.
Noah: "Yes maam."

A minute later:
Noah: "Yes sir."
Abby: "I'm not a sir, I'm a maam.  Say "yes sissy."
Noah: "Yes, sissy."
Abby: "Thank you."
Noah: "Yes sir."
Abby: "Noah!"

Two minutes later:
Abby: "Noah, do you want a braid in your hair?"
Noah: "Yes sir."

Bow-dow

Peggy was getting Noah ready to change his diaper for the night.  Usually gets his diaper changed with no fuss.  Peggy told him to lay down on his Buzz couch (his new favorite place to get changed....it's a foam couch that folds out into a small bed....the kids love it).

He yelled "BOW-DOW, MAMA!"

We were both very confused.  He kept yelling it.  Peggy told him to lay down.  He refused, and kept yelling.  Peggy asked what he was saying "bow-dow, mama!"

This went on for a bit.  Then Noah walked over to the other side of the room, picked up a small pillow and brought it back to her.  "Bow-dow, mama!"  "You mean, pillow?"  "Yeah!"

Apparently he now needs a pillow to get his diaper changed....
