SHE DID IT!!!! SHE DID IT!!!!

A week or so ago, Abby regressed a bit on the potty. Before that, she was doing amazing, telling us whenever she needed to go. But then there was a period of a few days where she wanted NOTHING to do with the potty. She threw a fit everytime we asked her to go. So, we contemplated what we should do. We were so frustrated, we considered going back to diapers. But, then we remembered that we told ourselves once she went in underwear, we're not looking back.

So, we took a somewhat non-traditional approach. You always hear "them" say not to force the issue. Well, when we were asking and encouraging Abby to go to the potty, she threw a MASSIVE fit. Well, whenever she throws a fit for anything else, we either tell her to go cry in her room or put her in timeout.

So, we took a risk. A big risk if you ask me.....when she threw a fit about using the potty, we put her in timeout. It took five or so timeouts before she realized we meant business.

She still wasn't tremendously excited about going, but she would begrudgingly do it. So, we tried a different approach.....instead of interrupting playtime to say "let's go to the potty" we started saying "let's go for a walk" or something to that effect. Then, when we'd get close to the potty, we'd just walk her in there. Since we started this approach, it's been a LOT easier. She hasn't had a fit about using it ever since. And now, she'll even suggest we go to the potty. I play it off and say "what a great idea that is!"

So that brings us to the last few days. She has been doing SOOOO well on the potty lately. The last two days (one of which was her first day back at school) she only had ONE accident each day! We were so proud of her for having two tremendous days in a row. We stopped keeping track, but she was probably around 12-1 each of those two days. Her teachers said she went everytime at school, with no issue (even using the medium sized potties).

But, today, she was......drumroll please......COMPLETELY UNDEFEATED!!!! Yes, you read that right, for the first time today, she had NO ACCIDENTS ALL DAY! We are beyond proud of her. She is just doing so amazingly well. She even left the house for about two hours with no accidents!

We're still not to the point where we can rely on her to tell us. The weird part is, as of a couple weeks ago, she was really really good at that. But, I don't think we give her long enough yet. We take her to the potty about once an hour. She pees or poops every single time now. It's great! As time goes on, we'll spread out the trips to the potty a bit more, and hopefully start relying on her to tell us when she has to go.

Going forward, we know there will be more accidents. Hopefully she won't regress much again. But, we're very hopeful that she'll continue doing so well.
